“I worked with Inquirium for almost a decade and couldn't have asked for a better partnership. When we presented them with a problem or opportunity, they were always eager to jump in alongside us and creatively iterate on innovative solutions. In addition, their project management and communication systems were top-notch and projects flowed smoothly from deliverable to deliverable.”

Challenge

Researchers work with vast troves of data on student achievement which are difficult to communicate to stakeholders.

Solution

Inquirium worked with the Consortium on School Research to create online data tools—including a backend data management system for staff and frontend user-facing interface for stakeholders—that leverages “data dives” to guide users through understanding the key milestones in students’ educational pathways from middle school through college graduation.

The Online Data Tool can be used to examine patterns of educational attainment among different student subgroups, see how many students from individual high schools have reached a particular milestone along the path to and through college, and see which colleges and universities Chicago Public Schools students are choosing, as well as the institutional graduation rates of those schools.

Results

Over more than a decade of working as thought-partners with researchers from University of Chicago’s Consortium on School Research, Inquirium continues to support a system that reaches tens of thousands of Chicago Public Schools district staff, principals, school leaders, and community stakeholders. Starting with a focus on High Schools, we have expanded the tool’s “lenses” to include Community Areas, Elementary Schools, Higher Ed institutions, and Elected Board districts. In addition to creating interactive data tools for the public, Inquirium has also created tools for publishing dynamic reports as static PDFs, for offline distribution.
