Rotating Algal Turf Contactor Simulator
The Rotating Algal Turf Contactor Simulator (RATC) was developed for Chicago Zoological Society (Brookfield Zoo). The software is intended to provide opportunities for students to learn about bio-remediation (using naturally occurring biological mechanisms) to maintain water quality. Students have an opportunity to apply their knowledge of water quality by designing and testing a RATC system to clean the water for a number of different exhibits at the zoo.
Students modify elements of the RATC and are able to test their designs.
The software is packaged together with full curriculum materials and is available for teachers to use with their classrooms. In addition, the curriculum involves an on-site visit to the zoo.
