Causal Mapping Tool
The Causal Mapping Tool was developed in collaboration with the Web-based Inquiry Science Environment (WISE) and the Center for Innovative Learning Technologies. It was designed to allow students investigating systems of complex relationships, such as the factors that contribute to water quality, to represent causal relations as nodes and links.
Sample causal map. Causal factors are boxes. Direct relationships are blue arrows. Inverse relationships are red arrows.
Causal mapping is integrated into several WISE projects, and can be easily integrated into new WISE projects that are developed. The causal mapping tool has also recently been adopted by Intel for use on the Intel in Education website.
More information on causal mapping can be found at Intel's Seeing Reason site or on the University of California's causal mapping web site.
