==============================================
April 24, 2006 UPDATE:
VPedals are now directly supported by the latest version of InqScribe (v1.5) via the new "Set Up Foot Pedal..." wizard. It is a free upgrade for 1.0.x users, so please download and try it today!
==============================================
For InqScribe 1.0.x users only:
[January 30, 2006 Update. I've updated the VPedal script to use the ALT key + Home/End/PgUp/PgDn/ keys because some users were wanting to use the keypad for other purposes. Also this new script won't automatically start InqScribe, which was also causing problems for some users.
NOTE if you installed the previous version of the script and want to install this script, you'll need to remap the keys in InqScribe to use the ALT keys (see Part I).
]
It *IS* possible to use VPedal with InqScribe. The key is that you need to ignore VPedal's own plugin (HotKey), and install the freeware AutoHotKey application instead. In addition, we created a script that will simplify the integration with AutoHotKey.
Here's our draft instructions for installing AutoHotKey.
We've verified this with Windows XP. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

SETTING UP VPEDAL WITH Windows XP
You can use a VPedal with InqScribe by installing the AutoHotKey application and our example script.
For most users, our example script should duplicate the basic functionality of a standard dictation machine:
* If you press and hold down the "Play" button, the video will play.
* When you let go of the "Play" button, the video will stop.
* If you press and hold down the "FF" or "RW" button, the video will FF/RW.
* When you let go of the "FF/RW" button, the video will stop.
If you're a power user feel free to tweak our script to fit your purposes.
Part I. Set up InqScribe keys
The first thing we need to do is to set up InqScibe's keyboard shortcuts to correspond to the "Play," "Fast Forward," and "Rewind" buttons on the VPedal.
1. Start InqScribe (the latest version is 1.0.2)
Make sure your version of InqScribe is already installed in the Applications folder.
2. Make sure the menu item Media->Enable Keyboard Shortcuts is checked.
VPedal communicates with InqScribe via Keyboard Shortcuts, so it needs to be on (checked). If it isn't checked, just select it (or hit Ctrl+K) and it will be selected.
3. Select the menu Media->Edit Keyboard Shortcuts
We want to set up four keys: Play Forward, Fast Forward, Rewind, and Pause.
4. Set Play Forward: We're going to use Alt-Home keys as the Play Forward button.
a. Click on the "Add" button (in the "Edit Keyboard Shortcuts" Window).
b. In the "Shortcut" field, press the Alt and Home keys simultaneously.
You should see "alt-Home" displayed in the Shortcut field.
c. In the "Action" popup menu, select "Play Forward".
d. Click "Save" to save the setting.
5. Set Fast Forward: We're going to use the Alt-PageDown keys as the Fast Forward button.
a. Click on the "Add" button (in the "Edit Keyboard Shortcuts" Window).
b. In the "Shortcut" field, press the Alt and PageDown (PgDn) keys simultaneously.
You should see "alt-PageDown" displayed in the Shortcut field.
c. In the "Action" popup menu, select "Fast Forward".
d. Click "Save" to save the setting.
6. Set Rewind: We're going to use the Alt-PageUp keys as the Rewind button.
a. Click on the "Add" button (in the "Edit Keyboard Shortcuts" Window).
b. In the "Shortcut" field, press the Alt and PageUp (PgUp) keys simulatneously.
c. In the "Action" popup menu, select "Rewind".
d. Click "Save" to save the setting.
7. Set Pause: We're going to use the Alt-End keys as the Pause button.
a. Click on the "Add" button (in the "Edit Keyboard Shortcuts" Window).
b. In the "Shortcut" field, press the Alt and End keys simultaneously.
c. In the "Action" popup menu, select "Pause".
d. Click "Save" to save the setting.
8. Click the "Done" button (in the "Edit Keyboard Shortcuts" Window).
You can now use the Numeric Keypad keys to control your movie.
9. Test your keystrokes.
Try opening a movie and using your keystrokes to control the movie. If the keystrokes are not working, go back and redo steps 4 through 7 and try again. Make sure the Edit Keyboard Shortcuts window lists your shortcuts correctly.
10. Quit InqScribe.
Now we move to installing the AutoHotKey Application.
Part II. Install the AutoHotKey Application
1. Download the AutoHotKey Application:
http://home.tampabay.rr.com/kodi/ahk/AutoHotkeyInstall.exe
If the link above doesn't work, try starting from the AutoHotKey page:
http://www.autohotkey.com/
2. Open the AutoHotkeyInstall application.
Double-click on the AutoHotkeyInstall file.
3. Follow the instructions to install the AutoHotkey Application 2.0.
You should be able to use the default values.
4. Download our AutoHotKey Script:
http://www.inquirium.net/products/inqscribe/bin/InqScribe_VPedal_v0.2.exe.zip
After the download, Windows should automatically unzip the file and open it in a new window.
Here's the source for the script, in case you want to edit it.

5. Drag the "Start InqScribe + VPedal" application to your Desktop.
You'll be using this script to start InqScribe with VPedal support.
A few notes about this step:
* You MUST run this script every time you start InqScribe or InqScribe will not respond to your VPedal.
* You can save this script anywhere you want to. For instance, you can save it in the "InqScribe" folder under "Program Files" and just create an alias to it on your desktop, start menu, etc.
6. Start using InqScribe. (See Part III. Test).
7. If you want to quit the AutoHotKey support for InqScribe, Right-Click the "H" icon in the lower right corner of your Taskbar/Tray, and select "Exit" from the popup menu.
This will remove the AutoHotKey script. You shouldn't need to do this though.
Part III. Test it in InqScribe
1. Re-open InqScribe by double-clicking on the "Start InqScribe + VPedal" script icon.
2. Define a movie.
3. Try hitting the pedal buttons to see if they respond.
If they don't respond, try using the numeric keypad keys directly. If the
numeric keypad keys don't work, the problem is likely somewhere with your
keyboard shortcuts setup. Try going through the Part I instructions again.
POWER USER NOTES
* You really can't use a Shift+NumericKeyPad combination because Shift +
NumericKeyPad just maps to the arrow keys, e.g. "Left" and "Right".
* See the "InqScribe Keyboard Shortcuts" page for more information on
valid keys to use with Windows.
